Yard roundup
2024 has come to a close. It has been a very big year for Fox-Pitt Eventing but in a transitional way rather than celebrating results.
My career has come to an end which was very emotional yet normal, and things have progressed very happily. I have enjoyed riding at lower levels jumping smaller jumps, had and have still some horses to sell. I have got one that I own and two that belong to friends. So it is a big change on that front.
I did sell BLS Absolutely, for Alice and Catherine, to Tom Crisp. We are very pleased that such a good horse has gone to a top British rider. My other horse that I need to sell is Hussard Brun, who I own, so for business reasons he has got to go.
Looking forward I would like now to have 2 exciting horses to produce, I can focus on more training and my two daughters who very much enjoy their ponies. I am enjoying my two young homebreds, who are now 4 and 5, and before we know it my 2 year olds will be 3 and will all need breaking in.
Jess Rimmer is now based with us which is very exciting, but she is only taking up 6 stables. So I now need to find someone to rent the other 12, and they could be here on a totally independent basis or involve me as trainer/mentor. I am looking forward to seeing who comes along.
Jackie is very much staying with the team, but is now working less. Sara Bech Strom, after three years, is sadly leaving. She is moving locally so we will remain in contact. I am very excited to have found Martin Honeysett to help manage the yard in it’s new direction and I am glad that Adela is staying on in the Team for 2025. Alice Smith who has been instrumental this season, has taken time out with Shane Rose, and it is great news she will be coming back in January.
I am happy to report that things are moving forward in just the way I would like.
I cant finish up without mentioning the Cycle4Caroline team raising funds for Spinal Research, in Caroline’s name. It is incredible what the cyclists led by Tom and Piggy have achieved. I am very much looking forward to joining them on the last leg tomorrow. I am hoping the only thing I have on Sunday morning is a sore arse!
