Burghley results
Burghley finished on a high with Pimms finishing in 10th place. He came out this morning feeling on great form, he flew through the trot-up which is always a relief, and I was delighted with how well he jumped. It is always frustrating to roll a pole when jumping a great round, but he was very unlucky to rub a pole over the water tray.
Fortunately the fence down only cost him one place, and he managed to move up three places from his overnight position.
Overall I am delighted with how well he performed, and going into Burghley I would never have hoped he could have gone so well. His performance is really exciting for next season, and he will now have a nice long holiday.
Michael Jung jumped a superb clear to win, and Tim Price stayed in second place with a masterful job in the show jumping.
The Brits were a bit thin on the ground, but Tina Cook put on a fantastic performance on Star Witness to finish in 8th.
It was undoubtedly a very successful Burghley, with the cross country influence coming to the fore. Mark Phillips did a superb job with his cross country course for which he must be congratulated. He was very brave with the questions he asked the riders and he was rewarded with several good rounds, and in the main, lots of very positive coverage for the sport.
