Aston Le Walls
I had a very good day at Aston Le Walls and was very busy with five horses, but my times worked very well thanks to the Aston team.
Seacookie felt very well scoring 30 in the dressage, producing a very pleasing and soft test. His show jumping was clear and his round was just spot on. He thoroughly enjoyed his cross country, ‘at last’ he thought. But I took him steadily with 17.6 time faults.
Fernhill Pimms was also delighted to be out again and on good form. He got exactly the same mark in the dressage of 30, jumped a good clear, and got exactly the same time faults in the cross country of 17.6!
Henton For Fun was also having his first run cross country since Tattersalls and felt his best ever. He did a very smart 24.3 in the dressage, jumped a super clear and felt fabulous cross country.
My two young greys, both 6 years old, were having their first Intermediate and I was delighted with them both.
Reinstated got 29 in the dressage which was an impressive first intermediate performance. He rolled a couple of poles in the show jumping, I think he was just a little surprised, but he jumped a very good round. He then flew cross country and really took on the course incurring 10 time faults which was slightly quicker than I expected.
The Soapdodger did a very pleasing test to score 27, unfortunately he rolled three poles in the show jumping early on, before realising the course was actually quite big and then jumped very well. He was then excellent cross country and really feels full of confidence which bodes well for the future.
Nigel Taylor produced a decent track with a few questions, but overall it wasn’t too complicated and he will be delighted with how well it rode. With another three days of competition at Aston I wish the Taylors and their team all the best.
We have a very early start at Hartpury tomorrow for Parklane and then a very late dressage with Avoca Alibi, so there will be plenty of hanging around. However, two of my riders - the boys - are at Hartpury. Cyril in the 1* and Rupert in the 2* so there will be lots of time for course walks.
