I am sorry it is a bit out of date now but we had a lot of fun at Chard.  I was riding Vicky’s two six year olds, only in the 90, probably we felt the main thing was it was good to get them out.  Both went very nicely, finishing second and fourth and will have benefited from a nice easy outing.

It was fun that day to have my daughter and niece also competing, Olivia was competing Violetta in the 90, and she was very pleased to finish in 6th place.  Chloe was having her first outing in a grown up competition doing the 80, it was to be her last competition on Rocky so it was an emotional day, but she finished on an extremely good note finishing first and second giving her no idea of the harsh reality of what is to come.  Her parents were obviously extremely proud.

From Chard it was next stop Burghley where Alice was busy with some work for Defender, and apart from my usual course walk I was doing a Masterclass in the Main area on Thursday and a retirement farewell on Sunday.  Oli and friend Firoux were doing some work for the live coverage, so very weirdly we went to Burghley in a horse lorry as a caravan full of people and without a horse.

We had a great week and seemed to be extra busy.  There were plenty of good friends that I never got to see, but Burghley was really generous giving me a send-off I will never forget.  I thought I would just be cantering around the ring and waving farewell, but there was plenty more emotional stuff than that that had me mopping tears.  There have been some wonderful messages and I feel very lucky to have had so many happy years at Burghley.

This week is back to reality with more Brazil, and we are very sad to be having Kazu’s leaving party tonight.  Hopefully we have got a good gang joining us as he is heading back to Japan tomorrow, where he will now be focusing on his teaching in Tokyo, and he will be riding his show jumper.  Unbelievably sadly for Kazu his three event horses are staying with me and next year they will be taken on by the future rider for JRA.
