Rio - Show jumping & Results

 

The horses looked fabulous at the horse inspection and all were accepted to jump the first round which would decide the Team medals and provide qualification to the second round for the Individual.   

 

First to go was Gemma on Quicklook who did a lovely clear but picked up 4 time faults to complete their first Olympics on a score of 140.8.  Kitty went next on her beautiful Ceylor LAN and jumped a very classy clear, finishing on 100.4.  Pippa and Billy The Biz also jumped a great clear to finish on 84.3.  And then it was the turn of Chilli and William.  Entering the arena they were in 22nd position and after producing a textbook clear they moved up to 18th, becoming the only British pair to qualify for the final round.  

 

 

The four excellent clears by Team GB also moved them up the placings in the Team competition from 8th place after cross country to finish in 5th.  The course had provided a number of issues and the leaderboard changed dramatically throughout the first round.  Australia, who had been in Gold position after the cross country dropped down the order to Bronze, with Germany moving up from 4th into Silver and France moving from Bronze to Gold.  New Zealand, who had been in Silver position after cross country dropped down the order to 4th.  

 

The second round of jumping began to take its toll with clears being in the minority.  Once again William and Chilli rose to the challenge, both showing their experience and talent over a tricky course, and jumped a stunning clear putting the pressure on those above them.  They were rewarded by gaining another 6 places to finish the competition in 12th.
