Winter time at Fox-Pitt Eventing
We have now moved into winter mode and are very busy adding to our team. Most of the guys from this season are staying on which is great news. I am looking for another jockey and possibly someone with some managing experience.
The hunters are up and running and we have already enjoyed several days cubbing with my girls. We are now looking forward to getting stuck into some hunting, it is actually quite wet for November even though Cheltenham at the weekend was calling it’s ground good, so I want to get in as many days as possible before the ground turns to its usual ‘bottomless’.
Grafennacht is coming along well in her programme and will be well ahead of the game because my main two come in to start their 2023 campaign in December.
Santini has stayed in to also get ahead, and I am looking forward to taking him to some show jumping shows. He is looking really good and his Eventing body is making a lot of progress. It was lovely to see his owners at Cheltenham on Saturday, they have been away a lot in the summer so there was a lot of Santini chat.
We are breaking in my 3yo by Oslo, who is being a perfect pupil. She is also in foal to Glencarrig Eclipse who is a Connomara in the hope of breeding something my daughters will enjoy. But as she will miss some work as a 4yo brood mare we thought we would get well ahead of the game.
While I am thinking breeding; the other news is that her mother Queenie is in foal to Diarado and due in June. We have finally got Tacoma D’horset in foal (she sadly lost her foal to Herald at 8 months), but she will not be due until August. So as you can see I am getting a bit carried away with the breeding. Tomatillo’s foal, Brillo, is looking terrific and
I have hopefully found him a friend as he will be weened soon.
On the coaching front I have just got back from Buenos Aires helping Team Brazil in the South American Games. We had a terrific few days with Team Brazil winning the gold, and Carlos Parro winning the individual gold. They also won individual bronze with Ricky Candi, so it was a great week. Eric Winter designed quite a serious track, they luckily shortenend the 9.5 minute course as the ground was pretty firm, and frustratingly the aerovator was out of action; something that must be looked into….. Everyone was so friendly, the event ran very smoothly, and it was enjoyed by many supporters.
