Burnham Market
We had a happy day at Burnham Market yesterday. I had very luckily been signed back on to ride and the horses were on great form, so overall I couldn’t have been happier.
Yes I Can was only having his 2nd run of the season and was joint lead with Nicola Wilson on a score of 26. His show jumping clear was foot perfect, sometimes he can be quite unruly but he was very polished. His cross county went totally to plan, it was a good intermediate course that asked a few questions, and he really couldn’t have gone any better. Of course I got a few time faults so dropped down the order to 8th but he had a really good run and is looking spot on today.
I had my two Badminton horses out again I felt very confident that Harry had done the job on Little Fire at Thoresby so I wanted to give him another trip in the lorry. He did a super test to lie in second on 25, which is good to see as he has done 25 in both of his last outings. He then jumped a lovely clear and Jenny I decided not to run him cross country anyway.
Oratorio was on early and did a good test of 29, slightly fluffed one change which was annoying but every solid and confident. He jumped one of his best clears show jumping. He really does seem to like the new bit I have got from Lucinda Green, and with the same bit cross country he felt on great form. He gave me a good ride and I pushed on a bit to check my brakes and I would say it was the most controlled round he and I have done so far. Alec’s course was good, it asked some decent questions on some quite direct lines and I was really pleased that Oratorio stayed so straight and relaxed. He got 12 time faults and ended up in a very respectable fifth place.
Hopefully those two boys are now set and it is just about some fitness and some polish.
It was good for me to have had a decent run and I am very relieved to say that I did see the odd good straight forward stride!
