Bicton
We had a very successful day at Bicton yesterday, with all the horses going well.
Luxury FH scored a nice win in the intermediate section which was fantastic especially as it was only his second intermediate run. He was second after the dressage with a score of 25.5, jumped clear and gave me a very good ride cross country, adding just 9.2 time penalties. It was a decent track with a lot of variety so I was very impressed with how he coped.
Henton for Fun finished 3rd in his section. He did another lovely dressage of 28.2, jumped a very good clear in the show jumping and was clear cross country with 12 time faults. He was unfortunate to go out in the worst downpour of the day (I could hardly see where I was going) but I was delighted with him.
It was nice to have Gaucho out again, and he finished sixth in his open intermediate class. He got 32.3 in the dressage and then jumped a super double clear. But as he is off to Blair next week I took him very steadily, incurring 18 time faults.
Top Biats scored an easy win in the open novice which was very satisfying (his sixth win of the season). He took the lead in the dressage and did a lovely test on 23. Jumped a lovely clear show jumping and gave me a great ride cross country, with just 2.4 time penalties to win by 3 marks. Having run intermediate last time out I wanted to give him an easier run, just for a bit of fun. The applications for Lion de Angers six year old World Championships go in this week so fingers crossed.
Topaze du Plain was having his first novice run with me and when I walked the novice track, which was very decent, I wasn't sure how he would cope. After a good test of 28.5 and a clear show jump he had a green run out on the cross country, but was otherwise excellent. I was very happy with him, he is a really lovely horse and I am looking forward to seeing how he develops.
Bicton had done a superb job, both courses were on the strong side but rode well. They had done their best with the ground preparation and it was good to see Bicton back on the up again.
