West Wilts
Cayiano had a fabulous day at West Wilts. He won the 5yo/100 class and he timed his victory to perfection as it is the first event all his owners could watch at.
It was just great that they could all be there, he led the dressage and scored 21.5 and jumped a lovely clear show jumping. On the cross country I had to push on a bit to do the time, and I thought it was quite good for him to actually go forward in a decent gear. He was quite surprised by the change of approach having done his last two events in a hand canter. His round was by no means foot perfect but he was always going and he really seemed to enjoy himself. I am aiming him at the 5yo Championships at Osberton so it will have done him a lot of good to have had that win.
Duke Legacy also had a pleasing day finishing 4th in his Novice section. He did a very nice test but scored a rather boring 31, in the show jumping he was clear and really ballooned a few fences for the first time. He gave me a good ride cross country, I pushed him on a bit but I was still too slow and got 4 time faults. As he couldn’t have won anyway I probably didn’t push him on quite enough but he had a good run and I am getting a little more used to using his gears.
West Wilts had done a great job with their course, it wasn’t necessarily very difficult but it was a very good education with plenty of skinnies.
