Aston Le Walls
Very generously Aston Le Walls had put on an extra day of competition to host three Advanced classes yesterday. This was mainly due to Hartpury having to ballot nearly one hundred horses out of the CIC3* and gave me a chance to give Seacookie & Bay My Hero a much needed Advanced outing.
This was Bay My Hero’s first competition since Tattersalls in May and overall I was very pleased with him. He did a lovely dressage to score 29 and although he jumped well show jumping he had two poles down. He gave me an excellent ride across country and felt comfortably within himself. The Advanced track was very friendly and ideal for this time of the season.
Seacookie, despite being a bit excited in the dressage, scored 31 in his test. He had three fences down in the show jumping but didn’t jump a bad round by any means and he felt great across country. He is entered for Burghley CCI4* and Blenheim CCI3* and we will decide shortly what his plan ‘A’ is.
Freddie Mac had a superb day and continued in the same vein as Purston on Sunday by winning his first Intermediate comfortably, by five marks. He did a very good test to score 25.9, jumped a lovely double clear, feeling very classy across country and finishing much closer to the optimum time than I had either expected or planned. He is now going to run in a few more Intermediates and hopefully get his 2* qualification.
Before Time also had a very god day finishing 4th in his Intermediate section. He did a pleasing test and is relaxing all the time. I was very encouraged by his show jumping, which was clear and confident and he flew round the cross country with 5.2 time faults.
