Lion d’Angers - dressage

Lillie got here in very good order and settled in to her French stable.  She had quite an early draw in the dressage which I was quite pleased about because the ground in the main arena was particularly soft, and she did a very decent test. Overall I was very happy with her but she was quite on her toes and there were a few little imperfections that would have been expensive, and they were probably why she only scored 29.9 which is an OK mark but a bit disappointing for her as she is so good at Dressage.  She held on to 11th place and the leader is within a show jump so it is seriously tight and I think if she has one down she will be abut 40th, so it is very much reiterating the new Eventing tight marks.

We have had a lot of rain but not as much as the UK, so we are very lucky to still be running.  The cross country ground will be slippy and slidey but I am hoping it doesn’t get too deep. The course I feel is a nice track for a 7yo and asks a few good questions.  There are three or four tricky ones near the end which could cause a problem as it is when the horses might be getting a little tired at around the 8 minute mark. The course is a bit shorter than normal, the optimum time is only 9.18, whereas it is normally 10 minutes, so it could also mean the time will be tighter with more jumping efforts in a shorter distance?

We are going cross country at 1.39 French time, and I am hoping again she will get the best of the ground.

There is big rider discussion about whether the show jumping happens tomorrow on grass or on a sand surface.  Riders feel here the arena grass is far too soft, but the Event very much want to keep the big part of the competition down in the main area with all the trade stands.  I am the Rider Rep so wish me luck with that battle!
