The 2023 season got off to a start at Moreton and it was a pretty soggy morning.
I started with my two Novices and Cayiano strutted his stuff very successfully to finish third, which was not pre-empted. His dressage was great to score 23 and he did a great double clear with a few time faults to only drop down to third. He was feeling pretty grown up which was an exciting way to start the season.
I had Duke Legacy having a nice run in the Open Novice, because I wanted to start him off gently before Intermediate next weekend. He got 27 dressage with a relaxed test. He had one pole off and felt very happy to be out cross country again.
Next it was the 100 horses turn; Centari was fab, his dressage was not as good as it could be but he still got a pretty decent mark of 31.8. His double clear was spot on, so I hope he will be ready for his first Novice next weekend.
Absolutely came out feeling quite fresh but managed to contain himself in the dressage to get 32.8, he then did a very satisfactory double clear round.
Santini was only doing his second event, and he was quite happy to be out. He did well to contain himself to score 32.8 in the dressage, he just rolled a pole but gave me a very good feeling in the show jumping, and then he flew around the cross country. The plan with him is to hopefully do a couple of 100 events before his first Novice later in April.
Sara was riding two more for me in the 100, and she got off to a great start and both did lovely clears cross country.
Thierry van Reine was having his first event based from our yard and although his horses have a level of experience we thought it was good to start with at 100 level, and both apparently felt great.
Moreton did a great job with the heavy overnight rain on friday, the cross country got quite chewed up but the ground coped well and the odd jump was moved to find some better ground.
