Blenheim - weekend update
Cross country day started in thick fog, but it had lifted a little bit in time for Cool Mountain. He gave me a fantastic ride, foot perfect all the way. We finished inside the time, and eventually moved up to fourth place. The going was perfect and the course rode really well. It was perhaps a little bit easier than in previous years so to be on a four star horse was a luxury.
I think the time was reasonably tight but 13 horses managed to achieve it. I was very happy that Ol was one of them particularly given that he only had two outings in preparation.
He looked great overnight and trotted up really well this morning. So it was really unfortunate he rolled a couple of poles in the show jumping to slip down the order finishing twelfth. He actually jumped a good round and it was a shame the two he hit came down.
Overall it was fantastic to have him back in action, particularly as at 15 years old he owes us nothing.
It was a convincing win for Clark Montgomery, finishing well ahead of the field, and it was great to see a good few young British horses looking very promising.
We are off to Pontispool tomorrow for a busy day and then back to normality on Tuesday.
