Start of the 2024 season - Tweseldown

Thanks to Tweseldown we were very lucky that our season got off to a start following the cancellation of Cirencester. I don't know how Rachel and her team managed to put a day like that together, with a terrific course, in under two weeks - quite a feat.
My day started off with four in the Novice and they all jumped a double clear, which is a huge credit to my home team, as I have been away quite a lot in the last few weeks teaching in America. So it was very much down to the homework of the team.
BLS Absolutely had a pretty perfect day out, he did a 28 double clear, and couldn't have done much better. I was in trouble with my wife for going so slowly, but avoiding time faults was not priority for his first outing.
Brun Hussard started his season excellently with a lovely test of 28, and a nice double clear. I ended up being a bit slow on him but there was no hurry and he was digesting everything in a very relaxed way.
I then had Violetta who I am riding for my niece. She is doing her GCSE's and my brother and sister-in-law are being very mean in not allowing her to do much riding during this time. So I have been asked to get her started and she did a very pleasing test of 32. She is a jumping machine so the rest was a piece of cake.
I was very pleased with Cusco because he is my greenest horse and he coped as well as I could have hoped, he had a couple of little blips in the dressage but went very well. On the cross country his eyes were a little bit out on stalks, and once or twice he did fall back into trot, but he is always very genuine and will have come on a lot for his first run. We were very lucky to give them a good cross country school at Pontispool in the week but there weren't any tricky questions, so Tweseldown was several steps up for him.
Grafennacht had a great day, she felt fantastic and her test was pretty much spot on apart from one pirouette (bloody pirouette!). She gave me a great finish show jumping and just touched one, and thoroughly enjoyed her cross country, When she got back to the lorry she hardly needed washing off. Her eyes were on good form as the sun was quite low by the time we went out.
We are all hoping that the weather doesn't disrupt our plans for Thoresby next weekend, I have Grafennacht in the Advanced, and Kazu also has his two there in the OI and 4*S, so another busy week ahead.
